Check mate

Gingham, it's a huge hit this season being seen all over the runways and on street style stars from around the world. But it's a hard one, how do you wear this trend without looking like little bo-peep?!

The key to keeping this look 'grown up' is by adding the checks with tailoring, that way you're not running the risk of going all 'country girl'! Keep it simple and wear with pared back pieces to make sure the look doesn't go too OTT. And finally keep it monochrome, it's a great way to make a style statement whilst still looking sophisticated.

Here at Bishop Phillpott we love an on trend look, but our pet hate is buying something that's only going to last one season. So we've cherry picked some pieces that nod to the gingham trend without dating before you've even had a chance to wear them.

A statement cover up, the tailoring on this Paul Smith coat is just perfect. We love how it will liven any outfit. Whether that be over a cashmere jumper, jeans and boots or over a little black dress for a smart wedding look. Oh and green colour detail....we love it!

It's not a trick of the eye, this blazer from Paul Smith is a mixture of blue and black gingham. So unusual, but so easy to wear. Keep it simple and pair with your skinny jeans or for an on trend look team with some distressed boyfriend jeans and trainers.

Gingham dresses don't have to be ready for the barn dance! This tailored body con dress from IIsabel de Pedro is the perfect figure flatterer. The cut is beautiful and the gingham hides a multitude of sins. Wear with killer heels and a leather jacket now or team with statement sandals for the summer.
